Neil Young（全名：Neil Percival Young，尼尔·珀西瓦尔·杨）毋庸置疑，发誓要将自己的一生，都献给摇滚乐的加拿大民谣老将Neil Young是摇滚乐诞生以来，最有影响力的艺术家之一，也是近年来为数不多，仍保持着旺盛创作精力的老牌艺人之一。
1945年11月，Neil Young出生于加拿大多伦多，父亲是加拿大著名的体育记者Scott Young。在双亲离异之后，Neil Young跟随母亲来到了Winnipeg。正如那个时代的很多年轻人一样，Neil Young从小就自学吉他，并在高中时开始组乐队。在有过不少组乐队的经验之后，Young真正的音乐生涯开始于在加州组建的Buffalo Springfield乐队。
1966年秋，Neil Young和Stephen Stills在内的另外三位乐队成员开始录制乐队首张专辑《Buffalo Springfield》。Buffalo Springfield乐队在短暂的两年内共发行了三张专辑，Neil Young的创作天分得以充分发挥，在队期间创作出《Mr. Soul》 ，《Broken Arrow》，《Expecting to Fly》和《I Am a Child》等著名歌曲。在短暂的一进一出之后，Neil Young在1968年5月正式离开了Buffalo Springfield乐队，开始了个人的单飞生涯，同年宣告了乐队的解散。
在新世纪，Neil Young依然保持了旺盛的创作力。在2000年，2001年和2003年，Young分别发行专辑《Silver and Gold》，《Are You Passionate》和《Greendale》。
2005年，Neil Young不幸身患脑病，但在纽约作完脑外科手术痊愈之后，令人敬佩的Young在05年9月再次发行唱片《Prairie Wind》。
